Georgina Energy Plc (LON: GEX) has commenced site inspections at its Mt Winter helium, hydrogen and natural gas prospect in Australia, progressing preparations for a seismic survey and planned drilling programme in 2027.
The company’s technical operations team, alongside Aztech and specialist ecological consultants, is inspecting the Mt Winter wellhead, proposed seismic survey routes, and potential drilling locations.
The team has located the existing Mt Winter water well and is assessing site access, while environmental specialists carry out preliminary ecological reviews to support the proposed exploration activities.
Mt Winter holds estimated 2U/P50 prospective recoverable resources of 234 billion cubic feet of helium, 214 billion cubic feet of hydrogen and 1.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, according to the company’s resource assessment.
These figures represent prospective resources rather than proven commercially recoverable reserves, with further exploration and drilling required to confirm the presence and recoverability of the targeted gases.
Georgina plans to accelerate development of the prospect, beginning with 190 line kilometres of new seismic surveying, aimed at improving the geological interpretation of the subsurface formations.
The existing seismic information dates back to 1981, making modern data acquisition an important step in identifying potential gas accumulations and refining future drilling targets.
The new survey will help establish geological structures, formation depths and potential direct hydrocarbon indicators, while supporting the assessment of helium, hydrogen and natural gas prospects.
Seismic acquisition is targeted for early 2027, ahead of planned well re-entry drilling by mid-2027, subject to operational arrangements and the results of the survey.
The company has invited tenders from seismic contractors, while a formal drilling tender process is expected to begin in early 2027.
Discussions with Harlequin Energy are continuing over potential funding for the pre-drill seismic programme, although the company confirmed that any arrangement remains subject to a formal agreement.
Georgina is also reviewing access arrangements and environmental considerations ahead of the proposed field activities.
Chief Executive Anthony Hamilton said the site inspections represent another step towards drilling Mt Winter in 2027, highlighting the project’s potential alongside the company’s planned Hussar prospect re-entry programme.
He described the combination of Mt Winter and Hussar as potentially transformational for Georgina, although commercial outcomes will depend on successful exploration, testing and subsequent development.
For investors, the current site inspections mark progress towards the planned 2027 exploration programme, with updated seismic data expected to help define drilling targets and reduce geological uncertainty.
The project offers exposure to helium, hydrogen and natural gas exploration, but the company must still secure funding arrangements, complete environmental and technical assessments and demonstrate commercially viable resources.
Attention will now turn to the proposed seismic programme in early 2027, the outcome of funding discussions with Harlequin Energy and preparations for the planned mid-2027 drilling campaign.
