Switch Metals Maiden Drill Programme Commences at Issia

Switch Metals PLC (AIM: SWT) has commenced its maiden drilling campaign at the Issia Project in Côte d’Ivoire, marking a significant milestone as the company advances both its hard-rock lithium and tantalum exploration strategy and a potentially near-term tantalum production opportunity.

The programme will comprise approximately 2,500 metres of drilling across the high-priority Zraty and Kabore prospects, where previous exploration has identified encouraging lithium and tantalum mineralisation.

At the Zraty prospect, drilling will focus on hard-rock tantalum targets beneath areas that have already delivered high-grade surface results. Previous sampling returned grades of up to 1,230 parts per million (ppm) Ta₂O₅, highlighting the potential for a significant tantalum-bearing pegmatite system.

Meanwhile, the Kabore prospect is emerging as the company’s primary lithium target. Exploration has outlined a 1.3-kilometre lithium pathfinder anomaly, with surface sampling identifying spodumene-bearing pegmatites grading up to 2.8% Li₂O. Spodumene is the principal lithium-bearing mineral used in battery production and remains a key exploration target for companies seeking exposure to the electric vehicle supply chain.

The maiden drilling programme is designed to test the continuity, scale and grade of mineralisation beneath surface discoveries and provide critical information for future resource development.

Alongside the drilling campaign, Switch Metals is progressing work on its maiden tantalum mineral resource estimate. The resource will focus initially on shallow eluvial and colluvial deposits, which management believes may offer a lower-cost route towards early production.

The company has previously highlighted the potential for a near-term, ethically sourced tantalum operation, positioning Issia as a possible future supplier to industries including electronics, aerospace and advanced manufacturing, where demand for responsibly sourced critical minerals continues to grow.

For investors, the commencement of drilling represents an important value-inflection point. The programme will provide the first subsurface test of both the lithium and tantalum targets, while the forthcoming mineral resource estimate could help establish a pathway towards commercial development.

With exposure to two strategically important critical minerals and multiple exploration catalysts expected over the coming months, Issia is rapidly becoming the central focus of Switch Metals’ growth strategy.
