UK and Turkey to Expand Free Trade Agreement Following Productive Talks

According to Turkey’s trade minister, Britain and Turkey will hold negotiations to expand their existing free trade agreement.

The current deal, rolled over post-Brexit in 2020, was reviewed in 2023 by both sides, who concluded there was significant scope for enhancement.

Following a meeting in London with UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat described the talks as productive. In a post on X, he said both parties had signed updated sections of the agreement covering motor vehicles and chemicals, marking an “important step in the modernisation process.”

Bolat also confirmed plans to hold the 8th session of the Türkiye–United Kingdom Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) in London later this year, where broader trade relations will be reviewed in depth.
