The helium crisis that’s disrupting space exploration

A third of the world’s helium supply just went offline. Qatar — responsible for roughly 30% of global helium production — has seen its Ras Laffan facility hit, with repairs expected to take 3 to 5 years. Helium is a critical component in semiconductor fabrication, quantum computing, space launches and fusion energy research.

Thomas Abraham-James, CEO of Pulsar Helium, joins the show to break down the scale of the shortage, what it means for AI and technology supply chains, and why his company’s primary helium discoveries in Minnesota and Greenland are attracting significant attention from end users looking for supply diversity.
