Japan’s Nikkei 225 share index closed Wednesday at a new record high, gaining 0.6% to finish trading at 41,831.99.

This rise followed a record close on Tuesday, as global markets mirrored gains on Wall Street.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index increased by 0.4% to 17,587.16, while the Shanghai Composite index fell by 0.3% to 2,949.60.

China reported a decrease in its consumer price index to 0.2% in June from 0.3% in May, falling short of expectations mainly due to price drops in foods other than pork.

Lynn Song of ING Economics commented: “Weak consumer confidence continues to drive consumption towards better value-for-money purchases, and competition in the EV sector is pushing prices down, suppressing overall inflation.”

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 declined by 0.3% to 7,806.30.

In Seoul, the Kospi dropped by 0.2% to 2,862.89. Taiwan’s Taiex and India’s Sensex both increased by 0.2%.

On Tuesday, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite each rose by 0.1%, achieving all-time highs for the second time this week.

Overall, the S&P 500 increased by 4.13 points to 5,576.98. The Nasdaq gained 25.55 points to close at 18,429.29. The Dow fell by 0.1% to 39,291.97.
