The UK and Germany have signalled that they will not resume the use of Russian gas even after the Ukraine conflict concludes.
The German ambassador to the UK mentioned that the bond “is now severed” while speaking to attendees at the Energy Intelligence Forum in London, as covered by Bloomberg News.
This decision could significantly impact Europe’s biggest economy. Prior to the conflict, Russia supplied slightly more than half of Germany’s gas consumption.
Graham Stuart, the Net Zero Minister, informed the assembly of oil and gas leaders that there won’t be a resurgence in reliance on Moscow’s gas.
A legislative report from 2021 indicated that Russia was the source of a mere 4% of the UK’s gas and 9% of its oil consumption.
