Sir Keir Starmer’s address at the London Future of Energy Security event.
The Prime Minister will speak at the Future of Energy Security Summit, alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The two leaders are also expected to discuss a potential defence agreement on the sidelines of the event.
Earlier, Chancellor Rachel Reeves told US media that Europe must “better coordinate our defence spending, in the same way America does,” highlighting growing calls for greater alignment among Western allies.
The summit comes amid mounting criticism of government proposals that could lead to a “postcode lottery” in UK energy prices. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband is weighing the introduction of zonal pricing, which would divide the national electricity market into regional zones, potentially leading to price disparities nationwide.
Starmer Unveils £300m Boost for UK Offshore Wind Supply Chains
Earlier today, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced a £300 million investment to support the UK’s domestic offshore wind supply chains. This is part of efforts to attract clean energy investment and bolster energy security.
The funding, delivered through the publicly owned company Great British Energy, has been brought forward ahead of the upcoming spending review. The government confirmed that it will be directed toward developing UK-based supply chains for key offshore wind components such as floating platforms and subsea cables.
Speaking ahead of the energy security summit in London, Sir Keir said the accelerated investment would help create high-skilled jobs and enhance national energy resilience, urging global investors to back Britain’s clean energy ambitions.
“Delivering our plan for change means leading the global race for clean energy jobs, which will drive economic growth and help us achieve clean power by 2030,” he said.
“That’s why I’m fast-tracking this vital investment in our offshore wind supply chains—supporting our welders, electricians, and engineers, and reinforcing our energy security.
“My message to the world is clear: come to Britain and help build the future of clean energy.”
