Russia claimed on Friday that it would not recommend its citizens travel to Britain. It complained that British authorities made it “virtually impossible for Russians” to get visas.
Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that Russian applications were being held up because Britain gave priority to Ukrainian refugees. The Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that Russians could not pay via Visa or Mastercard on the British website. Both have been suspended in Russia.
It stated that “considering the very unfriendly course taken by the UK towards our country”, it recommended that Russian citizens avoid travelling to the UK and attempting to get British visas.
“Until the situation improves, we will continue to act the same with respect to the British.”
According to the ministry, the British actions were “a politically motivated violation of the rights of Russian citizens”,
The Home Office, Britain’s interior ministry, didn’t immediately respond to our request for comment.
Tensions between Moscow, London and Washington have escalated in recent weeks. On Friday, Britain announced new sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s financial networks. This was due to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
