Poolbeg Pharma PLC (AIM: POLB) is stepping up partnering discussions with multiple pharma groups as it approaches a series of near-term clinical catalysts that could unlock a deal.
Lead asset nearing key data
The company’s lead candidate, POLB 001, is being developed to prevent Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS), a serious immune reaction linked to modern cancer treatments such as bispecific antibodies.
Interim results from the TOPICAL trial—the first patient study—are expected this summer, with recruitment underway across leading UK centres including The Christie, Royal Marsden Hospital and University College London Hospitals.
Commercial potential and partner interest
Management says interest from potential partners has increased as the data readout approaches. Independent US pricing research suggests multi-billion-dollar peak sales potential, with Poolbeg estimating an addressable market exceeding $10 billion across indications such as multiple myeloma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
POLB 001 has also secured Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, offering potential regulatory advantages and market exclusivity.
Pipeline expansion
Beyond oncology, the company is advancing an oral GLP-1 programme for obesity—aiming to replicate injectable weight-loss drugs in pill form—with a proof-of-concept trial planned for the second half of 2026.
Financial position
Poolbeg ended 2025 with £7.7 million in cash, broadly unchanged year-on-year after an oversubscribed £4.87 million fundraise. The full-year loss was £5.7 million, reflecting continued investment in R&D.
Chief executive Jeremy Skillington described 2025 as transformative, with 2026 shaping up as a potentially pivotal year as clinical data and partnership discussions converge.
