Oil prices decline amid diminishing concerns over an extensive conflict in the Middle East.

Oil prices experienced a significant drop on Monday as concerns over the potential escalation of the conflict in Israel into neighboring countries diminished.

Brent crude momentarily fell below $89 per barrel, a stark contrast to its more than 3% increase on Friday, which was fueled by speculation that additional nations might become involved in the conflict.

The Middle East has witnessed a series of attacks recently, including the U.S. targeting two locations in eastern Syria last week. The Pentagon identified these sites as facilities utilized by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Eric Robertsen, the global head of research and chief strategist at Standard Chartered, commented on the situation, stating: “As the ongoing conflict in the Middle East unfolds, we are closely monitoring the potential convergence of strained financial conditions and a surge in risk aversion due to geopolitical tensions.”
