The Great British Private Investor Summit 2018 – Thursday 24th May

Uncover the best altertnative, innovative investment models of 2018 by questioning the key influencers in the early-stage investment industry. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet with like-minded investors and investment providers in angel investing, early stage venture capital, crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending. Please note, this event is exclusively for private investors – any entrepreneurs or fundraising companies that book onto the event will be refunded prior to the event.

Chapel Down Group (CDGP) reported a 15% increase in annual sales to £11.8m. Wine sales were one-fifth higher at £8.12m with cider and beer sales, via associate Curious Drinks, were 7% ahead at £3.68m. Operating profit improved from £346,000 to £470,000 but there was a much larger loss from the Curious Drinks associate so pre-tax profit was lower. The new brewery should be open in the first quarter of 2019. Last year’s fundraising means that Chapel Down has a strong balance sheet and is in a good position to expand. Michael Spencer has increased his stake from 17.5% to 18.2%.

Adnams (ADB) says that beer volumes were nearly 5% higher in the first quarter, while spirit volumes were 30% ahead. However, the first half outcome will be lower than last time because the poor weather hit the company’s pubs and there are additional costs for updating the brewery and IT systems. The second half is expected to be stronger and also to benefit from cost savings.

Cyber security technology developer Crossword Cybersecurity (CCS) more than doubled its revenues in 2017. The loss still increased from £950,000 to £1.24m despite the improvement in revenues from £345,000 to £737,000. The cash outflow was £1.06m, which left £490,000 in the bank. Since then, £2.16m was raised via a placing at 270p a share.

Sandal (SAND) has secured a term loan of up to £500,000 from major shareholder Greenbrook Industries Ltd and £250,000 would be used to buy back 862,068 shares from Greenbrook. The shares will be cancelled and this will enhance earnings per share. Shareholders are being asked to approve the share buy back.

Good Energy (GOOD) has renewed its offshore wind power deal with Orsted for a further two years. This secures 12% of the output of a North Sea wind farm and this can power more than 26,000 homes. Generation has been ahead of expectations.

KR1 (KR1) has announced its latest investments. An investment of £184,000 has been made in Nexus Mutual Project (NXM) tokens. The number of tokens will be confirmed after the public token sale. KR1 will receive the tokens at a 17.5% discount to the lowest price offered in the public sale. Nexus Mutual will use blockchain technology to recreate insurance mutual. The company has also invested £150,000 in Argent Labs Ltd, which is creating a decentralised banking protocol on the Ethereum blockchain. KR1 has invested €201,000 in the private pre-sale for the Herdius project.

Gibraltar-based TDH Ltd has taken on Coinsilium Group Ltd (COIN) as its adviser for a token generation event. The TrustedHealth platform will create a decentralised global network of doctors and healthcare specialists offering virtual consultations. They will pay with TDH tokens and the token sale started on 27 March and lasts until 27 April. Faruk Saylam has sold 1.5 million shares, which leaves him with a 4.4% stake.

NQ Minerals (NQMI) has entered into a three-year, $10m loan facility with a US private equity firm and this will be used to develop the Hellyer mine. The facility has a 12% annual interest charge and it is secured on the company’s assets. NQ has entered into a silver purchase deed with the finance provider and has to sell them 30% of the first 8 million ounces recovered from the Hellyer mine and 10% of the payable silver for the lifetime of mine. The price will be the lower of $6/ounce or 80% of market price.
