Great Southern Copper (LON: GSCU) said surface channel sampling has confirmed broad copper-silver mineralisation at the Monolith target within its Cerro Negro prospect in Chile.
The Monolith target is located around 400 metres southeast of the high-grade Mostaza copper-silver discovery and forms part of the company’s Especularita project.
Results from 20 channel traverses, covering 409 metres of sampled outcrop and 214 samples, confirmed highly anomalous copper-silver mineralisation associated with quartz veining in a silica-clay altered dacite dome.
Key results included 56 metres at 28.5 g/t silver and 1,745 ppm copper from channel CH021-A, including 6 metres at 81.5 g/t silver and 7,890 ppm copper.
Channel CH035-B returned 56 metres at 19.2 g/t silver and 348 ppm copper, while CH035-D returned 24 metres at 38.9 g/t silver and 969 ppm copper.
A further channel, CH041, returned 78 metres at 10.1 g/t silver and 736 ppm copper, including 12 metres at 31.0 g/t silver and 1,459 ppm copper.
Great Southern Copper said anomalous channel and rock chip results now define a copper-silver mineralised zone covering around 700 metres by 400 metres.
The company said the mineralisation is hosted in altered dacite dome rock and is similar in style to the Mostaza deposit.
It added that surface leaching and oxidation may have depleted outcropping mineralisation, suggesting potential for higher grades at depth below the weathering profile.
Chief executive Sam Garrett said the results further demonstrate the scale potential at Monolith and significantly enhance the prospectivity of the wider Cerro Negro prospect.
He said the broad anomalous channel intervals confirm mineralisation extends through extensive quartz-vein crackle and stockwork zones within the dacite dome.
The company said Monolith is now reinforced as a priority drill target.
Next steps will include integrating the results with geological mapping, structural interpretation and geophysical data to update the Monolith geological model and refine drill targeting.
Additional geophysical surveys are also being planned ahead of scout drill testing.
Great Southern Copper holds rights to own 100% of the Cerro Negro prospect, including the Mostaza mine.
