The FTSE 100 is set for a muted open on Tuesday, hovering just below flat, even as gold pushed to another record high overnight.
London’s blue-chip index has been called one point lower in early futures trading, after slipping 31.45 points to close at 9,865.97 on Monday. Other European markets are also expected to start little changed or slightly weaker, with US futures indicating a similarly cautious tone.
That follows a stronger session on Wall Street, where the S&P 500 gained 0.6%, while the Dow Jones and Nasdaq both rose 0.5%, supported by advances in Oracle, Nvidia and Tesla.
The UK data calendar is light today, but attention will turn to the final batch of US economic releases before Christmas, including a delayed GDP reading, a new consumer confidence report and the latest PCE inflation data.
