North Yorkshire Council Planning Committee Decision regarding the Cloughton Well
Europa Oil & Gas (Holdings) plc has said it will appeal after North Yorkshire Council’s planning committee indicated it is minded to reject its proposed well at Burniston on the Cloughton prospect.
The decision goes against a positive recommendation from council planning officers, with a final ruling now pending the Secretary of State’s input on whether an environmental screening assessment is required—despite the company having already submitted one voluntarily.
Europa said it is disappointed by the outcome and remains confident the project will ultimately be approved on appeal, citing the successful Wressle oil field development as evidence that operations can proceed without adverse local impact.
Chief executive William Holland said the application was supported by extensive technical work and expert reports, adding the company believes the well can be delivered safely and in the interests of both the local community and the wider economy.
