Cornish Metals Highlights Strong Sustainability Progress at South Crofty

Cornish Metals PLC (AIM: TIN) has published its second Sustainability Report, highlighting improvements in safety, environmental performance and local employment as development of its South Crofty tin project in Cornwall accelerates.

The company recorded zero lost time injuries and zero fatalities during 2025 despite site activity increasing significantly, with hours worked rising more than 20% to 182,943.

Cornish Metals also received an ‘A’ ESG rating from mining sustainability assessor Digbee, while approximately 3.6 million cubic metres of mine water were treated and discharged in compliance with environmental permits, removing 99 tonnes of iron, 15 tonnes of manganese and three tonnes of arsenic.

The company reported no significant environmental incidents during the year, with 96% of its energy sourced from renewable electricity.

South Crofty continued to generate local economic benefits, with 84% of employees recruited from Cornwall and 96% of the workforce based within the county. Headcount increased from 80 to 93, while the company spent £24.4 million with suppliers, 41% of which were Cornish businesses.

Community investment totalled £107,000, and a socio-economic study involving more than 450 local residents will help shape future community engagement and investment programmes.

During the year, Cornish Metals adopted the Quoted Companies Alliance Corporate Governance Code following its move to AIM and reported no incidents of bribery or corruption.

Looking ahead, the company plans to finalise its long-term sustainability strategy, strengthen climate governance, improve ESG reporting and expand apprenticeship and skills programmes as construction activity at South Crofty continues to increase.

South Crofty is expected to produce around 4,700 tonnes of tin concentrate annually during its first five years of production over an initial 14-year mine life, positioning it as a potential strategic source of critical minerals for the UK and Europe.
