Angus Energy (AIM: ANGS), is happy to announce that it has won its appeal against West Sussex County Council’s refusal to permit an extended well test at its Balcombe site. This was in addition to its RNS of February 2021 and August 2021.
Angus Energy holds a 25% stake in the Balcombe field exploration (PEDL 244) that targets the Kimmeridge limestones. Balcombe 2Z horizontal sidetrack drilling was completed in 2013. Permission for flow testing was granted in 2018. The test showed that the horizontal sidetrack Balcombe 2Z was able to produce high flows for very short periods of time.
The Company determined that the drilling fluids left over from the 2013 operation were not part of the original planning permission.
In 2020, a new planning permit was requested to finish the clean-up and allow for an extended well test.
Yesterday’s Decision by the Planning Inspectorate made it possible for the Company to pursue this well test, subject to satisfying the Planning Conditions noted in the Appeal Decision and the determination by the Environment Agency of the Variation to the Environmental Permit. We believe that this is imminent.
