Royal Dutch Shell stated Tuesday that it is rerouting oil supplies from other depots after a cyberattack on Marquard & Bahls’ two German subsidiaries earlier in the week.
Oiltanking Deutschland GmbH, and Mabanaft, a mineral oil dealer, were both affected by the attack, according to Monday’s Handelsblatt newspaper.
A spokesperson for Shell Deutschland GmbH stated that they could “reroute to other supply depots for now”.
Deutschland GmbH & Mabanaft informed its business partners that it was working to resolve the problem in accordance with emergency plans, according to Handelsblatt.
The Hamburg-based company generated 10.5 billion euros ($11.83 trillion) in 2020 sales and employed approximately 6,200 people. According to Oiltanking, 45 terminals are owned and operated in 20 countries.
After a ransomware attack, Colonial Pipeline, a top U.S. oil pipeline operator, shut down its entire network. This was the source of almost half of America’s East Coast fuel supply.
This incident was among the most disruptive digital operations reported. Colonial Pipeline claimed at the time that it had paid hackers $5 million to gain access to its systems.
It was unclear what the nature of the attack on Marquard & Bahls was not clear.
