Donald Trump renews push for US control of Greenland

Donald Trump has renewed his push for US ownership of Greenland, turning his attention to the mineral-rich island as governments await a potential ruling from the Supreme Court of the United States.

The US president reiterated his assertion that Washington should take control of the Danish territory, arguing that Greenland is strategically vital to US national security in order to prevent influence or occupation by Russia or China.

He said that all options remain under consideration to secure the territory.

In a social media post, Mr Trump described Greenland as “vital” to the development of the “Golden Dome” missile defence initiative, making the comments just hours before the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland were due to meet US Vice President JD Vance at the White House.
