In anticipation of a heatwave that is predicted to increase the demand for air conditioning throughout Britain, the National Grid has requested that a coal power station be brought up to operational temperatures.
Due to a malfunction at an interconnector linking Britain and Norway, supply and demand balances have become precarious, as normal capacity from the station has been reduced by half.
At the same time, wind power generation has taken a dive and numerous power plants have ceased operations for seasonal maintenance, a period when the demand is usually at its minimum.
If necessary, Uniper’s Ratcliffe coal power station could be synchronized to the grid by 2.25 pm, as informed by the National Grid.
This is happening as Britain undergoes a heatwave hotter than Madrid, with amber heat warnings being issued throughout the South East and several other regions of the country.
