Futures indicated a slight uptick for the FTSE 100 on Wednesday, following a near-miss finish at 8,766 in Tuesday’s session.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 inched to a new record close on Tuesday after a volatile session, oscillating between gains and losses before settling at 6,129.58, up 0.2%, surpassing its previous high.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average remained unchanged at 44,556.34, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 0.1% to 20,041.26.
In the bond market, the yield on 10-year US Treasury notes climbed to 4.552% from 4.517% on Monday.
Asian markets faced mixed fortunes on Wednesday. Gains were recorded in Singapore, Shanghai, Seoul, Wellington, and Manila, but Tokyo declined as auto and semiconductor stocks took a hit following Donald Trump’s tariff announcement. Taipei also struggled due to a sell-off in chip giant TSMC.
Losses were seen in Sydney, Taipei, and Jakarta, while Hong Kong’s market was dragged down by tech stocks after Baidu reported a drop in fourth-quarter revenue and warned of short-term challenges.
