Asian markets were mixed in early trading on Thursday, following a subdued session on Wall Street where a recent rally lost momentum. Investors showed little reaction to the latest round of China-US trade talks.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.5% to 38,213.20, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng also dropped 0.5% to 24,234.80. The Shanghai Composite edged down 0.1% to 3,404.66.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.8% to 2,929.94, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 nudged 0.1% higher to 8,604.50. Taiwan’s Taiex fell 0.8%.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended a volatile session broadly flat at 42,865.77. The S&P 500 slipped 0.3% to 6,022.24, and the Nasdaq declined 0.5% to 19,615.88.
In the bond market, the yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes fell to 4.427%, down from 4.471% the previous day.
