Asian markets mostly traded lower following a subdued session on Wall Street, where the S&P 500 extended its record highs.
Regional investors remained cautious amid ongoing concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1.2% to close at 38,678.04, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 dropped 1.2% to 8,322.80. South Korea’s Kospi declined nearly 0.7% to 2,654.06.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index slipped 1.3% to 22,640.18 after China opted to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged, citing financial stability. The Shanghai Composite edged down by less than 0.1% to 3,349.60.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 gained 0.2% to 6,144.15, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average also rose 0.2% to 44,627.59. The Nasdaq Composite inched up 0.1% to 20,056.25.
In the bond market, the yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note dipped to 4.538% from 4.551% late Tuesday.
