UK says Russia has lost a third of its forces in Ukraine

Russia is likely to have lost about a third of the ground forces that it sent to Ukraine, and its offensive in Donbas “has lost momentum” and “has fallen significantly behind schedule”, British military intelligence stated on Sunday.

The British defence ministry stated on Twitter that Russia “has failed to make substantial territorial gains despite small-scale initial progress”

“Russia is now likely to have suffered losses of one-third of the ground combat force that it committed in February.”

According to the report, Russia is unlikely to significantly accelerate its pace of progress over the next 30 days.

After Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, the Ukrainian military forced Russia’s commanders to advance on the capital Kyiv. However, they made rapid gains in the northeast before driving them out of Kharkiv, the second-largest city.

Although a Ukrainian counteroffensive is underway near Izium, a Russian-held city, Ukraine’s military reported Sunday that Russian forces were moving elsewhere in the Donbas, the main theatre for war, over the past month.
