# UK Petrol and Diesel Prices Hit Four-Year Highs

**UK**[petrol and diesel prices](https://www.share-talk.com/uk-petrol-prices-hit-four-year-high-as-oil-surge-pushes-up-fuel-costs/)** have climbed to their highest levels in four years**, adding fresh pressure to household budgets as the latest surge in oil prices feeds through to motorists.

According to the **RAC**, average petrol prices have risen to **170.54p per litre**, their highest since August 2022, while diesel has reached **192.86p per litre**, its highest since July 2022.

For a typical family car, the cost of a full tank has risen by almost **£5 since the start of September**, taking the average bill to around **£94 for petrol and £106 for diesel**. For households that rely on a car for commuting, school runs or other essential journeys, the increase represents another direct hit to monthly living costs.

The rise comes as **Brent crude remains above $106 a barrel**, with the RAC warning that pump prices could continue climbing while oil stays above $100.

RAC head of policy **Simon Williams** said pressure is building on the Chancellor to support motorists, particularly with fuel duty currently due to start rising from January.

The RAC said there was a strong case for keeping fuel duty at its current level while households continue to face elevated transport and energy costs.
