The cause of the outage was not immediately clear. Twitter didn’t immediately respond to a request to comment.
Twitter suffered a February outage that disrupted the services of several thousand users. It later stated that it had fixed the software issue on its platform.
Downdetector.co.uk reports that the site went down at 12:55 PM UK time and was unavailable for 45 minutes. Site outages were reported worldwide, including in the UK, USA, and Europe.
This outage was the longest and worst in recent years. Twitter’s early days were notorious for crashing under heavy loads. Older users still recall the “fail whale”, error message that indicated when Twitter was at its limit. However, since 2016, it has never had a multi-hour outage.
This comes just days after Twitter sued Elon Musk, who is the world’s wealthiest person and abandoned his $44bn acquisition of the company.
