Tesla Halts Cybertruck Sales Amid Quality Concerns and Customer Backlash

Elon Musk’s Tesla has temporarily suspended sales of its all-electric Cybertruck following mounting scrutiny over build quality issues. Reports from owners and enthusiasts highlight significant concerns, including metal panels detaching mid-use, calling into question the vehicle’s much-touted “indestructible” design.

Customers on online forums such as Cybertruck Owners Club, along with Musk’s own platform, X (formerly Twitter), have confirmed that deliveries have been paused. A report from Electrek outlined recurring issues, particularly with the vehicle’s trim and body panels. One major point of failure is the cantrail—a decorative roof trim—that has been reported to detach unexpectedly.

The Cybertruck’s stainless steel exoskeleton was marketed as a game-changer, offering enhanced durability and resistance to wear. However, Tesla’s decision to attach visible panels separately rather than integrate them into the body structure has sparked concerns. Viral social media clips showing Cybertruck panels coming loose have only intensified skepticism.

Cold weather seems to be exacerbating these issues, with some owners reporting adhesive failures in low temperatures. Tesla has already issued multiple recalls, including one addressing a panel that was improperly glued to the vehicle’s body. Other recalls involve software glitches and a major safety hazard—an accelerator pedal design flaw that could cause it to get stuck within the internal trim.

Despite the initial hype surrounding the Cybertruck’s bold wedge-shaped design, production has been fraught with challenges. Sales have reportedly slowed, forcing Tesla to introduce price discounts and rebrand high-end “Founders Series” models as standard versions to clear inventory. Adding to the company’s struggles, Musk’s political affiliations, particularly his connections to Donald Trump, have fueled further controversy, impacting consumer sentiment.

Tesla’s stock price has also taken a hit, with Cybertruck-related disruptions exacerbating market unease. Meanwhile, in Europe, the vehicle faces additional hurdles due to non-compliance with safety regulations. The Cybertruck’s weight and sharp-edged design fail to meet pedestrian safety standards, leading to its outright exclusion from UK roads.

With mounting quality concerns, regulatory challenges, and a cooling sales environment, Tesla faces an uphill battle to regain trust and maintain its dominance in the electric vehicle market.
