Smarter Web brings in Jon Bird to drive growth push

The Smarter Web Company has appointed Jon Bird as Head of Marketing with immediate effect, as the company continues expanding its marketing and communications capabilities following the acquisition of Squarebird Agency Ltd earlier this year.

Bird will oversee the group’s marketing strategy, including brand development, digital marketing, public relations and content across all channels as the business scales its commercial operations.

The appointment follows The Smarter Web Company’s acquisition of Squarebird in February 2026. Bird co-founded Squarebird in 2015, helping build the business into a profitable web design and digital marketing agency employing more than 20 full-time staff.

For the financial year ended April 30, 2025, Squarebird generated approximately £1.4 million in revenue and £1.28 million in gross profit, with around 40% of revenue recurring over the previous five years.

Following the acquisition, Squarebird became a wholly owned subsidiary of The Smarter Web Company, with Bird continuing to serve as an executive director of the agency alongside his new group-wide marketing role.

Management said Bird brings more than 15 years of experience in digital marketing, having led branding, communications and integrated marketing campaigns across sectors including finance, technology, consulting and media.

Chief Executive Andrew Webley said Bird’s appointment would play an important role in strengthening the company’s market positioning as the business continues to grow.

Bird added that his interests are aligned with the company’s long-term success following the acquisition transaction, through which he became a shareholder in The Smarter Web Company.
