Silver prices have soared to their highest level in decades following renewed trade tensions between the United States and China.

**Spot silver** climbed as much as **2.7%** to surpass **$51 an ounce**, exceeding last week’s intraday high and bringing it within striking distance of its **record peak of $52.50** set in 1980.

The broader precious metals rally has accelerated this year amid mounting geopolitical uncertainty. **Gold** also reached new milestones, breaking through the **$4,000-an-ounce** barrier for the first time last week. On Monday, bullion rose a further **1.1%** to trade at **$4,060.01 an ounce**.

“Kyle Rodda, an analyst at Capital.com, commented: *‘Just when geopolitical and trade risks were diminishing tailwinds for gold, we’ve got this flare-up in US-China tensions.’*”
