Week Ahead: Central Bank Decisions and Packed UK Corporate Diary

The coming week will be dominated by interest rate decisions from major central banks, with the US Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, the Bank of Canada, and the Bank of Japan all in focus. Alongside this, a busy UK corporate calendar features updates from some of the FTSE 350’s biggest names, including Next, Barratt Redrow and Investec.

Monday 15 September

  • Company results: Interims from Bango, HgCapital Trust, S4 Capital; finals from Knights Group.

  • Economic data: Rightmove House Price Index (UK), Retail Sales (China), Industrial Production (China).

Tuesday 16 September

  • Company results: Interims from City of London Investment Trust, Corero Network Security, Harworth, Headlam, JTC, Kier Group, Personal Group, Trustpilot. Finals from Kier, MJ Gleeson, Springfield Properties.

  • Overseas: Ferguson results.

  • Economic data: UK unemployment, ZEW economic survey (Germany), Industrial Production (EU), US retail sales, NAHB US housebuilding index, US industrial production.

Wednesday 17 September

  • Federal Reserve: The Fed is expected to cut rates by 0.25 percentage points for the first time this year, balancing above-target inflation with a weakening labour market. Chair Jerome Powell has warned of upside risks to inflation but downside risks to employment.

  • Company results: Full-year results from Barratt Redrow; interims from IP Group and Facilities by ADF; finals from McBride and Supermarket Income REIT. Trading update from Moonpig.

  • Overseas: General Mills results.

  • Economic data: CPI inflation (UK, EU), Fed decision (US), Bank of Canada decision, US oil inventories.

Thursday 18 September

  • Bank of England: The MPC is expected to hold rates at 4.0pc after last month’s cut, with inflation still elevated and growth weak. Markets will watch for any update on quantitative tightening.

  • Company results: Interims from Next, Capricorn Energy, Foresight Solar Fund, Judges Scientific, Maintel, M&C Saatchi. Finals from Renishaw.

  • Overseas: FedEx, Darden Restaurants.

  • Economic data: BoE decision (UK), US initial jobless claims.

Friday 19 September

  • Company results: Interims from Investec, Skillcast.

  • Economic data: UK GfK consumer confidence, UK retail sales, UK public sector borrowing, Bank of Japan decision.
