Roadside Acquires Coventry Petrol Station and Restructures Meadow JV to Focus on Strategic Growth
AIM-listed real estate firm Roadside (AIM: ROAD), which specialises in UK roadside and convenience retail, has acquired a former Sainsbury’s petrol station in Coventry for £1.25 million. The site, located on Austin Drive just outside the city centre, was purchased from Roadside Retail—a joint venture between Roadside and investment firm Meadow Partners.
The company plans to redevelop the site by reinstating the petrol station and convenience store, while adding EV charging points and other ancillary services.
Chief executive Charles Dickson said the acquisition aligns with Roadside’s strategy to unlock value through essential retail infrastructure in high-traffic, accessible locations. “We believe the Austin Road site offers strong redevelopment potential and an attractive return profile, supported by rising demand for well-situated, service-led retail formats tailored to local community needs,” he said.
In tandem with the acquisition, Roadside has restructured its joint venture with Meadow, excluding petrol station retail assets from the JV. This move gives Roadside greater autonomy to pursue opportunities in areas such as energy transition, convenience retail, and shifting consumer preferences.
Additionally, Roadside has acquired Meadow’s 49% stake in Roadside Asset Management for £1 million and is working towards increasing its stake in the Meadow JV to 10%, as previously indicated.
