Widespread Internet Disruption Hits UK Banking and Online Services
A growing number of users are reporting online and mobile banking outages this morning, with Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland customers among those affected. The three institutions, all part of Lloyds Banking Group, are experiencing login and access issues, leaving many unable to view accounts or make payments.
According to monitoring site Down Detector, reports of outages have spiked sharply across multiple banking platforms.
Meanwhile, a major outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) appears to be impacting a wide range of internet services globally, including Snapchat, Ring doorbells, Roblox, Coinbase, and HMRC.
AWS’s service status page confirmed:
“We are investigating increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS services in the US-EAST-1 Region.”
The disruption suggests that the AWS incident may be contributing to the banking connectivity problems, as many online systems rely on AWS infrastructure for authentication and cloud hosting.
Cisco’s ThousandEyes Reveals Widespread Internet Outages Linked to AWS Virginia Hub

Cisco’s ThousandEyes, a global internet monitoring service, has reported a significant surge in connectivity problems this morning, highlighting the scale of disruption caused by ongoing issues at Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The majority of the outages appear to be concentrated in Virginia, home to AWS’s critical US-EAST-1 region, where engineers are currently working to resolve the fault responsible for “increased error rates and latencies” across multiple services.
The incident has had a ripple effect worldwide, affecting access to numerous platforms and online services — from banking apps to consumer technology — underscoring how heavily the global internet infrastructure depends on the AWS cloud backbone.
