The UK government’s approach to energy security is “haphazard” renewable energy is the way to go.
Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s first minister, has called for strict climate compatibility checks on all new North Sea energy projects. She also called Downing Street’s planning “haphazard”.
The statement was made to the media by her on the same day the UK government distributed an expected 130 licenses for offshore oil-and-gas exploration. This added 898 sites to the available list.
Sturgeon stated that “any consent to new exploration should be accompanied by the strictest climate compatibility checks.”

With National Grid informing households of possible blackouts if gas supplies run low and urging households to conserve energy, Sturgeon told the BBC that this was “particularly galling” in a Scottish context since we are a net exporter.
She noted that Scotland produces enough renewable electricity to meet almost all its domestic needs. However, as it is part of the British grid, it is dependent on the UK government making good decisions.
