The National Grid has declared its intention to decrease electricity consumption on Wednesday, citing “tighter than usual electricity supply margins expected on Wednesday evening.”
To address this, it will implement its “Live Demand Flexibility Service” from 5 pm to 6:30 pm tomorrow, where participating customers receive compensation for reducing their electricity usage, thereby boosting the network’s available electricity.
This marks the first instance this winter that the National Grid has resorted to this payment strategy, having employed it twice in the previous winter.
The National Grid mentioned a “variety of reasons” for the need to reduce electricity usage on Wednesday evening but did not provide further details.
