Microsoft reaches $3 trillion valuation amid AI-fueled surge

Today, Microsoft joined the exclusive club of companies surpassing a $3 trillion market value, following a surge in investor interest driven by its emphasis on artificial intelligence.

This achievement places Microsoft alongside Apple, which attained the same valuation last summer. The company’s stock has experienced a modest increase of approximately 1.25% on the Nasdaq in New York, coinciding with US stock indexes nearing all-time highs.

In recent years, Microsoft has heavily invested in artificial intelligence, becoming the principal investor in OpenAI, creators of ChatGPT, and introducing numerous AI-driven enhancements to its flagship products.

The company has integrated an AI-powered digital assistant, named Copilot, into its Edge browser and Microsoft Office suite. Furthermore, Microsoft is incorporating Copilot into its keyboards, promoting widespread adoption of the tool.

Additionally, Microsoft has upgraded its Bing search engine with AI capabilities, aiming to challenge Google’s dominance in the search market.

Microsoft is part of the elite group known as the “Magnificent Seven,” which includes other AI-focused companies like Nvidia and Tesla. These firms have significantly contributed to the growth of American stock indexes last year.

Sophie Lund-Yates, a leading equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, commented on Microsoft’s success, highlighting the excitement surrounding the company’s AI tools and cloud services, as well as its stable core software offerings.

However, she noted a dependency on global sales of new computers and laptops for software like Word and Excel, an area that has shown some recent weakness.
