All air traffic in and out of London has been halted following a major technical failure.
Eurocontrol, the EU-wide air traffic agency, confirmed that the London control area is “temporarily unavailable due to technical issues.” The disruption began earlier this afternoon, according to an official notice.
NATS, the UK’s air traffic control provider, acknowledged the issue but could not confirm when normal operations would resume.
A NATS spokesperson said: “As a result of a technical issue at our Swanwick air traffic control centre, we are limiting the number of aircraft flying in the London control area to maintain safety, which remains our top priority.
“We apologise for any delays this may cause. Our engineers are working urgently to resolve the problem, and we are coordinating with airlines to minimise disruption.”

London Airspace Reopens After Radar Fault, But Delays Remain
The radar issue that led to the closure of all London-controlled airspace over the UK has now been resolved, according to NATS. However, passengers are being warned to expect continued disruption.
In a statement issued moments ago, a NATS spokesperson said:
“Our engineers have now restored the system that was affected this afternoon. We are in the process of resuming normal operations in the London area.
“We continue to work closely with airline and airport customers to minimise disruption.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
While flights are beginning to resume, significant knock-on delays are expected as operations gradually return to normal. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest information.
