Iran is seriously considering closing the **Strait of Hormuz**, according to Reuters, citing comments from **Esmail Kosari**, a member of the Iranian parliament’s security commission.

The Strait—strategically located between **Oman and Iran**—is the **world’s most critical oil transit chokepoint**, with nearly **20% of global oil shipments** passing through its narrow waters.

This is not the first time **Tehran has threatened to shut the passage** in response to Western political or economic pressure. However, the renewed rhetoric adds fresh urgency to a long-standing geopolitical flashpoint.

Elon Musk has signalled that **Starlink internet may now be active in Iran**, reigniting speculation about the satellite service’s role in bypassing authoritarian censorship.

The Tesla and SpaceX chief made the remark in response to a post by US broadcaster **Mark Levin**, who claimed Musk could “put the final nail in the coffin of the Iranian regime” by enabling free internet access to the Iranian people—suggesting it could aid in organising a “coup.”
