Between August and September, the average petrol price increased by 5.1p per litre, as reported by the Office for National Statistics, keeping inflation steady at 6.7%.

In September, the typical petrol cost was 153.6 pence per litre. This contrasts with the same month the previous year when the price dropped by 8.7 pence per litre, settling at 166.5 pence per litre.

Likewise, diesel prices surged by 6.3 pence per litre this year, reaching 157.4 pence per litre. In September 2022, there was a decrease of five pence per litre, with prices at 181.6 pence per litre.

The most significant drops in contributing to inflation were observed in the categories of milk, cheese, eggs, mineral waters, soft drinks, and juices.

The prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages declined by 0.1% from August to September, in contrast to an increase of 1.1% during the same period the previous year.
