Helix Exploration Appoints Keith Spickelmier as Chair as Company Enters Production Phase
Helix Exploration PLC (AIM: HEX, OTCQB: HHEXF) has appointed Keith Spickelmier as its new non-executive chair, effective immediately, succeeding David Minchin, who is stepping down as the company transitions into production.
Minchin has led Helix since its formation in September 2023, guiding the company through several key milestones, including its AIM listing in April 2024 and the successful raising of £17.75 million in equity funding.
Reflecting on his tenure, Minchin stated:
“Having worked with Helix since its inception, I am proud of the growth and significant milestones we have achieved. It is rare to take a company from IPO to production in under 18 months, and that takes skill, determination, and operational excellence.”
He added that the next phase of Helix’s journey requires leadership with a skill set tailored to operating a cash-generative, production-focused company with M&A ambitions.
Spickelmier, who joined Helix as a non-executive director in April 2023, brings more than 20 years of experience in the energy sector. He is the co-founder and current chair of Sintana Energy Inc, listed on the TSX Venture Exchange, which holds hydrocarbon assets in Colombia, Namibia, and Angola. His past ventures include co-founding Discovery Energy in Australia and founding Westside Energy Corp, which was sold in 2008 for approximately $200 million.
Commenting on his appointment, Spickelmier said:
“The company is in a very strong position—fully funded, supported by institutional investors, with four production wells drilled and a fifth underway. Construction of the production plant has also commenced and is progressing well.”
