**Gold and silver prices fell sharply on Wednesday**, as a stronger US dollar and hawkish comments from Federal Reserve officials increased expectations that US interest rates could remain higher or rise further in the near term.

Spot gold dropped **1.2% to around $4,303 an ounce**, while silver fell **3% to $65.05 an ounce**.

Other precious metals also weakened, with **platinum down 2.8% to $1,779 an ounce** and palladium falling **2.1% to $1,279**.

The move reflects precious metals’ sensitivity to US monetary policy. Higher interest-rate expectations tend to increase bond yields and strengthen the dollar, making non-yielding assets such as **gold and silver relatively less attractive** to investors.

A stronger dollar also makes dollar-denominated commodities more expensive for buyers using other currencies, adding further pressure on prices.

For investors, the key question is whether the Federal Reserve’s tougher rhetoric develops into **actual rate increases or persistently higher bond yields**. If those expectations strengthen, precious metals could remain under pressure; any renewed shift towards lower-rate expectations would potentially provide support.
