Germany braces for gas rationing as Russia deadline approaches

Robert Habeck, German Economy Minister, stated Wednesday that Russia insisting on payments in roubles instead of the Euro and Dollar denominations would be a breach of contract.

He stated that he would not accept any breach of private deliveries contracts and that he was happy to hear that the companies had agreed at a press conference.

Habeck also advised consumers to use gas sparingly as high prices have already reduced demand.

Germany is preparing for possible gas rationing amid growing fears that Vladimir Putin might cut supplies as a result of a standoff over payments.

With Russia’s concern that the country could shut down its energy supply, the country has entered the first phase of an emergency plan to manage the shortage of energy.

Robert Habeck, Germany’s finance minister, stated that a task force would monitor daily the situation and asked consumers and companies to reduce energy consumption whenever possible.

The government could limit some businesses’ energy supply in later stages of emergency planning.

There are growing fears that Moscow could cut gas supplies to Europe if the West refuses Putin’s request for payment in rubles after tomorrow’s deadline.
