FTSE 100 Rallies 0.8% as Oil Eases and Miners Rebound

The FTSE 100 climbed 88 points, or 0.8%, to 10,529 in early trading on Friday, recovering much of Thursday’s decline.

The index opened at 10,441.50 before reaching an early high of 10,538.95.

The domestically focused FTSE 250 gained around 213 points, or 0.9%, to 24,156.70, pointing to a broader improvement in UK market sentiment.

The rebound followed a retreat in oil prices after their sharp rise on Thursday, easing some concern that another energy shock could keep inflation and interest rates elevated.

Mining stocks provided additional support as metals markets recovered.

Gold rose around 1.5%, while copper gained approximately 1.3%, boosting precious and industrial metals producers.

Fresnillo led the FTSE 100 with a 3.3% gain, while copper producer Antofagasta rose 2.7% and gold miner Endeavour Mining advanced 2.5%.

The moves highlight the significant influence of commodity producers on the FTSE 100, with recovering metals prices helping offset some of the pressure that heavyweight energy shares could face from weaker crude.

For investors, Friday’s rebound reflects a reversal of two of Thursday’s main market pressures: oil has retreated while metals prices have recovered.

The key question is whether the improvement can hold if Brent remains above $100 and global bond yields stay elevated, with both still capable of reviving concerns over inflation and the interest-rate outlook.
