**London’s FTSE 100 extended its losses on Friday, 6 November, falling almost 2% as a global stock market sell-off gathered momentum, putting Britain’s blue-chip index on course for its worst trading session since March.**

The **FTSE 100 fell 1.94% to 10,573 points, extending the sharp decline at the opening bell as investors continued to retreat from equities after** Thursday’s heavy losses on Wall Street.

If it held through the close, the decline would mark** the index’s largest one-day percentage fall since March**, when the outbreak of the Iran war triggered significant volatility across global financial markets.

**The FTSE 250 also came under sustained pressure, falling 1.20% to 24,404.59 points**, demonstrating that the sell-off has spread beyond London’s largest internationally focused companies.

The latest declines follow a severe downturn in US technology shares, where concerns about artificial intelligence valuations, data centre investment and potential regulatory scrutiny have unsettled investors.

**Thursday’s Wall Street rout saw the Nasdaq Composite plunge 5.5%, the S&P 500 lose 4.4% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average decline 3.4%.**

The weakness has spread across Asian and European markets, with investors reassessing their exposure to equities amid uncertainty over the outlook for technology spending and economic growth.

London stocks are also adjusting to **the Bank of England’s decision to raise interest rates to 4%**, with policymakers warning that inflationary pressures could require further tightening.

Higher borrowing costs and uncertainty over future corporate earnings have added to the negative sentiment.

**The FTSE 100 is now 375 points below Thursday’s intraday high of 10,948**, highlighting the speed and scale of the market reversal over the past two sessions.

**Whether London records its worst daily decline since March will depend on trading during the remainder of Friday’s session**, with investors watching Wall Street’s opening performance for signs that the global sell-off may begin to stabilise.
