**London stocks opened broadly unchanged on Wednesday, with the FTSE 100 edging six points higher to around 10,656 as gains in luxury goods, property and industrial shares offset weakness elsewhere in the market.**

The blue-chip index advanced 0.1% in early trading, reflecting a subdued start to the session despite gains across several sectors.

**Burberry led the FTSE 100 risers, climbing more than 2%**, while defence engineering group Babcock International gained around 1.6% and Rolls-Royce advanced 1.2%.

Consumer stocks also attracted buyers, with JD Sports rising 1.2% and hotel operator Whitbread adding 1.3%.

Property companies recorded gains, with **British Land up 1.5%, Tritax Big Box REIT gaining 1.4% and housebuilder Barratt Redrow advancing 1.2%**.

The domestically focused **FTSE 250 outperformed**, rising 68 points, or 0.3%, to 24,408, while the **AIM All-Share** slipped 0.2% to 770.

Technology supplier **Softcat attracted attention after reporting a 24.7% increase in annual gross profit to £616.3 million**, alongside a 19.4% rise in underlying operating profit to £215.1 million.

The company expects high single-digit underlying operating profit growth in its 2027 financial year, excluding any contribution from its planned acquisition of US-based GDT.

**The relatively muted opening suggests investors remain cautious**, with selective buying in consumer, property and industrial stocks providing support while broader market momentum remains limited.
