First Class Metals Signs AI Exploration LOI for Sunbeam Project

First Class Metals PLC (LON: FCM) has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent to participate as an industry adopter in Project Field-to-Insight, an AI-enabled exploration initiative led by Rosor Exploration under the CENGN Living Lab initiative.

The proposed collaboration will use data from Rosor’s ongoing survey at FCM’s Sunbeam Project in Ontario to test technologies designed to speed up geophysical processing and geological interpretation.

Highlights

•      Potential to accelerate exploration decisions: Rosor’s AI-enabled workflow aims to reduce survey-to-decision turnaround from weeks towards days, helping FCM identify, rank and prioritise exploration targets more quickly and confidently.

•      Testing against real Sunbeam data: Once available, data and conventional processing deliverables from the ongoing Sunbeam survey will provide a benchmark for assessing automated processing and AI geological interpretation.

•      FCM will help shape and evaluate the technology: During the proposed twelve-month project, running from October 2026 to September 2027, FCM intends to help define performance criteria and assess data quality, anomaly detection and interpretation confidence, complementing its established exploration methods.

The aim is to reduce the time taken to move from survey completion to exploration decision-making, potentially shortening the turnaround from weeks towards days.

Rosor is currently carrying out a drone-based magnetic, radiometric and LiDAR survey over 54.33 square kilometres within Block A at Sunbeam.

Each dataset serves a different purpose. Magnetic data can help identify geological structures and contacts, radiometric data can support mapping of near-surface geological variation and alteration, and LiDAR provides detailed terrain mapping.

These new datasets are expected to be integrated with other exploration information already generated by First Class Metals, including very low frequency electromagnetic survey results and geochemical data from rock grab and soil sampling.

The combined dataset will also provide a benchmark against which the proposed AI workflow can be assessed.

Under the proposed 12-month project, running from October 2026 to September 2027, First Class Metals intends to help define performance criteria and assess areas including data quality, anomaly detection and interpretation confidence.

Chief executive Marc Sale said the company had built a robust exploration model at Sunbeam through detailed geological work and disciplined field activity, and sees the Rosor collaboration as an opportunity to build on that foundation by applying AI to real exploration data.

Rosor Exploration is a Canadian airborne geophysical surveying company focused on drone-based data acquisition, processing, 3D modelling and geological interpretation for mineral exploration and drill targeting.

CENGN, which is supporting the initiative through its Living Lab framework, is a Canadian organisation focused on technology innovation and adoption, helping companies validate solutions in real-world environments.

For investors, the important point is that this announcement relates to technology evaluation and workflow enhancement, not to a new mineral discovery, drilling result or resource estimate.

The strategic attraction is that if the AI tools prove effective, First Class Metals could improve the speed and confidence of exploration targeting at Sunbeam while complementing its existing geological methods.

However, the LOI is non-binding, and the main near-term outcome to watch will be whether the project produces demonstrable improvements in data interpretation and helps generate higher-quality exploration targets for follow-up work.
