EnSilica plc (AIM: ENSI) has secured two major development contracts with a leading European satellite operator, marking a significant step into next-generation space communications.
The agreements cover both satellite payload and user terminal chips, combining Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) and Application Specific Standard Parts (ASSPs). The win highlights EnSilica’s capability to deliver end-to-end silicon solutions across both ground and space segments.
Commercial impact
The contracts are expected to deliver:
- Initial non-recurring engineering (NRE) revenues of $6.8 million between FY2026 and FY2028
- Potential additional matched funding of up to $3 million from the UK Space Agency
- A long-term supply opportunity exceeding $50 million from 2030, based on the user terminal portion alone
The satellite payload component has already progressed through a successful study phase and has now moved into funded development, with future supply revenues still to be agreed.
Strategic positioning
The unnamed customer is developing a next-generation satellite network aimed at improving resilience, flexibility and coverage across commercial, government and defence applications, with initial services targeted towards the end of the decade.
CEO Ian Lankshear said the award provides strong industry validation, noting the combination of near-term revenue visibility and significant long-term supply potential.
The programme is expected to run through phased development over the next two-and-a-half years, positioning EnSilica as a key supplier in a major European space infrastructure project.
