Wall Street opened higher on Wednesday, with optimism over the imminent reopening of the U.S. government pushing major indexes to fresh record levels.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 87.8 points, or 0.18%, at the open to reach a record high of 48,015.79. The S&P 500 rose 0.3%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.4%, extending this week’s rally in risk assets.
Chipmaker AMD led early gains, surging more than 8%, just as CEO Lisa Su celebrated the company’s momentum by ringing the Nasdaq opening bell.
