{"id":137981,"title":"Diesel Prices Fall Nearly 17p a Litre After Oil Price Slide","publisher":"Share Talk","author":"sharetalk","published":"2026-07-02T09:37:08+00:00","modified":"2026-07-02T09:37:08+00:00","canonical_url":"https://www.share-talk.com/diesel-prices-fall-nearly-17p-a-litre-after-oil-price-slide/","markdown_url":"https://www.share-talk.com/diesel-prices-fall-nearly-17p-a-litre-after-oil-price-slide.md","json_url":"https://www.share-talk.com/diesel-prices-fall-nearly-17p-a-litre-after-oil-price-slide.json","category":"Blogs","categories":["Blogs","Energy"],"tags":["AA","Brent Crude","car","Chancellor","diesel prices","drivers","fuel","fuel duty","Iran","Middle East","petrol prices","pump prices","RAC","Tehran","UK petrol prices","United States","Washington"],"featured_image":"https://i0.wp.com/www.share-talk.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/fuel-9-march-26-scaled.webp?fit=1920%2C1280&quality=80&ssl=1","format":"news","language":"en-GB","content":"UK diesel prices recorded their biggest monthly fall on record in June, according to RAC Fuel Watch data, as lower oil prices fed through to forecourts.\n\nThe average price of diesel fell by 16.6 pence per litre over the month, dropping from 183.75p at the start of June to 167.14p by the end.\n\nThe RAC said this was the largest monthly fall since it began tracking fuel prices in 2000, exceeding the previous record drop seen in May 2023.\n\nPetrol prices also declined, with the average price of unleaded falling by almost 8p per litre, from 159.37p to 151.40p.\n\nThe reductions followed a sharp fall in crude oil prices in June, after a deal between the US and Iran eased concerns over energy supplies.\n\nRAC head of policy Simon Williams said June had been a much better month for drivers, with lower oil prices reflected at the pumps.\n\nThe RAC said the fall in diesel prices saved drivers around £9 on the cost of filling a typical 55-litre family car, while the drop in petrol saved around £4.40 per tank.\n\nSupermarket diesel prices fell even more sharply, dropping by around 19p per litre on average during the month.\n\nDespite the relief for motorists, fuel prices remain above levels seen before the latest escalation in the Middle East. The RAC said petrol could fall below 150p per litre and diesel below 160p if oil prices continue to weaken."}
