Diesel hits highest level since 2022 as fuel costs surge

UK fuel prices have surged again, with diesel reaching its highest level since Christmas 2022 amid the ongoing Iran-driven energy shock.

According to the RAC, diesel is now averaging 177.66p per litre, a level last seen shortly after the Ukraine war began.

Petrol is also climbing fast and is expected to break through 150p per litre, the highest since May 2024.

RAC policy chief Simon Williams warned that prices could rise further, with projections pointing to 152p for petrol and as much as 185p for diesel.

However, he noted that if oil prices stabilise around the $100 per barrel mark, fuel costs may begin to level off—though drivers are likely to face continued pressure in the near term.
