FTSE 100 Poised for December Gains, Analyst Suggests
The FTSE 100 is historically one of the top-performing indices in December, often benefiting from the so-called “Santa rally,” according to Sam North, an analyst at investment platform eToro.
North explained: “While past performance doesn’t guarantee future results, December has traditionally been a standout month for global stock markets. The Santa rally, in particular, has been favorable for UK investors.
“Whether driven by New Year optimism or increased trading activity, this seasonal boost highlights the importance of staying invested to capture performance spikes throughout the year.”
Today, the FTSE 100 hit a six-week high, continuing November’s modest gains, supported by a weaker pound. The index rose 0.3%, marking its strongest close since October 21, and recorded a 2.2% gain for November.
A 0.8% slide in sterling against the dollar bolstered internationally focused companies like Unilever, HSBC, and Anglo American, which generate significant revenue in dollars.
