# Breaking: A drone crashed into an airfield in Kursk, Russia, bordering Ukraine

The regional governor stated that a drone crashed into an airfield in Kursk, Russia, bordering Ukraine. This set fire to an oil storage tank.

“There were no casualties. The fire is under control. All emergency services are on site,” Governor Roman Starovoyt stated via Telegram messaging app.

Later, he stated that the region had hosted an “anti-terrorist” meeting. He didn’t say who was responsible.

According to the RIA news agency, firefighters are working right now to put out the flames that have spread over 500 meters.

About 100 km (62 miles) away is the Ukrainian border in Kursk.

Russia previously accused Ukraine of conducting drone strikes within Russian territory. This includes [Monday](https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/three-killed-fuel-tanker-explosion-russian-airfield-2022-12-05/) when two air bases located hundreds of miles away from Ukraine were attacked.
